Mist Runner takes place in the Kingdom of Solenum located in the Opaque Domain, one of the realms of Ylécium. Below are some of the main characters and important organizations found in the book.

- Atelina den Goldenswift is an experience mist runner and head of the Mist Runner Alliance in Sunshimmer.

- Eetlyn den Dawnwing is a very experienced and active mist runner. During Clarestide, he teaches mist runner training to children, usually from Clearhold where he was born.

- Hex is of uncertain family origin and age. Abandoned on the streets as a child, she has only vague memories of having once had a family. Pale with light blonde hair and gray eyes, she is considered a “mist child.” She has a lame leg and walks with a limp, often using a cane. When Kira protected her despite her cursed looks, Hex became fast friends to Kira and a second older sister to Veryn.

- The Mist Runner Alliance is the organization that trains, registers, and often houses mist runners. Every city has a headquarters and barracks where traveling mist runners can sleep and eat. The headquarters of the entire organization is located in the royal city of Starhaven. Their symbol is a bronze field of stars, usually worn on a gray shirt or sash.

- Starri den Britemorn is the son of the wealthiest individual in Clearhold, Tyrian den Britemorn. Starri’s family owns the metal mine located in the rock below Clearhold Spire. It is one of the most productive and finest quality ore producing mines in the Kingdom of Solenum, giving the family much importance. Starri, however, isn’t excited about the idea of spending his life in the confines of Clearhold. Going against his father’s adamant wishes, he has chosen to become a mist runner. This is where he earns the nickname Ash.

- Wynn den Morndove is the eldest son of a family of bakers. Though he loves baking, his family needs someone to handle the annual tax as they don’t earn enough from the business to hire a mist runner easily. And so, he has joined the mist runner training.
