Creatures of Solenum
There are many creatures that inhabit the misty realms where the Kingdom of Solenum is located. Some like the Clarestide Parrot and Sky Wren can be found within the mountaintop cities. While others, like the feared Mist Stalker only reside within the depths of the fog shrouded forest.
- The Clarestide Parrot is a migratory blue parrot that spends the warm months of Clarestide in the Kingdom of Solenum and the cooler months of Frostshroud near the equator.
- The Cloud Leopard is a mighty predator of the mist shrouded forests. With a roar that sounds like falling boulders, it tries to frighten pray into running so that it can swiftly tacklet them for a kill with its strong teeth and long claws. White and gray like mist with darker spots, this large cat is nearly invisible as it stalks its prey.
- The Dawn Fox is a nimble creature that lives on the edge of the forest and open land. Long legged and quick, the dawn fox stands around two feet tall. With large patches of thick white fur offest by auburn, it can blend into the mist and field equally. Many farmers believe them a sign of luck, since they frequently hunt the vermin and small rodents that damage agricultural products from vegetables to seed.
- The Giant Snail is a fairly timid beast that lives in the damp forests, eating moss and leaves. Shells of adult snails are usually over six feet in height, often reaching eight feet. Mist Runners talk of finding shells greated than 12 feet in the deep valleys. Mist Runners often use empty shells as safe places to spend the night but legends that returning snails have digested hapless runners has lead to caution on such use.
- Leaf Owls are beloved by Mist Runners, who often befriend the small creatures and use them as guards to alert of danger as they sleep. Nocturnal, these fiesty birds hunt insects and small vermin, but are known to be fond of honey coated grains. With green, wide leaves, they blend into the tree canopy where they sleep during the day.
- Marsh Stranglers are little known predators of marshes and shallow waterways. Growing to over forty feet in length, these massive snakes suffocate prey until they are incapacitated and then eat them whole while still alive.
- Mist Stalkers are the most feared predators of the misty forests. They prefer very dense fog and tend to stay deep in the valleys during Clarestide when the mist thins during the day, coming up into the highlands during the cooler months of Frostshroud. With poor vision due to living in thick fog, they rely on their sense of smell and movement to indicate potential prey.
- Silver Hart are herbivores that live off the thick foliage that grows in the tropical forests. Both male and female have branch-like antlers to protect themselves from the predators of the woodlands. Quiet and silvery white, they blend into the mist and are nearly invisible when they remain motionless.
- Sky Wrens are small bright blue birds that are a favorite of city dwellers for their joyful song and beautiful hue reminiscent of a clear sky.
- Sun Eagles are considered the messangers of the sun goddess the Solastra Triune. They are large birds of prey, standing around a foot and a half high. With brilliant yellow to gold and red plummage, they are striking creatures and look like pieces of fire when in flight.
